By the end of this lab, you will be able to:
- Provide potential genotypes if phenotypes and dominant/recessive alleles are provided
- Complete simple (one trait) Punnett squares with traits that exhibit complete dominance and codominance (blood types)
- Use genetic terminology such as phenotype, genotype, heterozygous, homozygous, dominant, recessive
- Explain the experimental procedure of blood typing and interpret results
- Analyze provided blood type data
Required prior knowledge and textbook readings:
- Genetics terminology
- Laws of inheritance
- Tools for genetic crosses (e.g. Punnett squares)
- Chapter 6, Section 6.1: The Genome in Concepts of Biology textbook
- Chapter 8, Section 8.1: Mendel’s Experiments in Concepts of Biology textbook
- Chapter 8, Section 8.2: Laws of Inheritance in Concepts of Biology textbook
